Lot of 30 stocks issued in the 1850s. Pen cancelled. Rare group! The Orinoco Steam Navigation Company was founded in New York around 1848 with a capital of $300,000 to operate steamboats on the Orinoco River in Venezuela, providing transport for goods and possibly passengers. Its operations faced challenges, notably when its steamer Apure was attacked by rebels in 1865 while carrying Venezuelan troops, sparking diplomatic disputes between the U.S. and Venezuela. Though short-lived, the company is notable for being an early American venture into river navigation in South America and for the international legal issues that arose from its activities.
