Original rare Bridgeport “holsterless” rig including leather cartridge belt and a great brass buckle. The rig is in overall good condition with the metal portion of the outfit showing “PAT’D JAN 17, 1882” and “BRIDGEPORT G.I. CO.”. The Bridgeport rig was an invention that allowed its owner to carry his sidearm, usually a Colt SAA revolver, on a belt in a holsterless manner. The revolver had a frame screw replaced with an extended screw that fit into a slotted mechanism on the frame of the Bridgeport rig thereby eliminating the need to a holster and presumably providing the wearer with quicker access to his firearm in time of need (including the ability to swivel the gun into action at the waist in a dire circumstance). The leather cartridge belt is carefully affixed to a wood backing to protect it from further deterioration as it is in overall fair + condition with some checkering of the top layer of leather but overall good. The buckle is marked “Trade Mark” in a circular center vignette of a dog with bird in its mouth and designs on the balance of the buckle including geometrics, crossed pistols and bowie knives. Est.: $5,500-$6,500.
