Original oil painting on canvas signed Bierley lower left and dated 1979. Titled on reverse “A Close Call” and measures approximately 30” x 24”. Edward J Bierley was born in 1920 and passed in 2004. He waswell-known for his wildlife art and he was in exhibit designer for the National Park Service until his retirement in 1970. He won The Federal Migratory Hunting Stamp or Duck Stamp competition 3 times between 1956 in1971. He traveled to Africa and designed museum exhibits in Rhodesia and began painting African art after his association with Unesco. He particularly liked to paint and sketch big cats and studied their anatomy and movement. He was influenced by Bob Kuhn and Bierley’s paintings have been exhibited in the Smithsonian Institution, The National Wildlife Federation in Washington DC along with several other museums and he illustrated several books. His paintings also have been reproduced in many national wildlife magazines such as Readers Digest, International Wildlife, National Wildlife and many others. Est.: $1,500- $3,000.
