Original oil painting on canvas entitled “Cold Trail in the Sand Hills” by David Humphreys Miller. Approx. 20”(h) by 24”(w), nicely framed. David Humphreys Miller was a very well recognized Southern California artist who worked out of Hollywood in his younger years and retired in La Jolla. He was an art director, set designer, and production illustrator and worked on Gunsmoke in the 1960’s. His painting of “Doc” was donated to the Cowboy Hall of Fame. Miller was fascinated with the American Indian in his young years and travelled to Wyoming and Montana where he studied and lived with participants of the Battle of Little Bighorn in the 1930’s. His renditions of Chiefs in the Battle of Little Bighorn have been offered to institutions and collectors at a price of $1,000,000 for the collection. His paintings were not commercially successful due to disputes with galleries and organizations of which he was not a member. Miller passed away approx. 10 years ago and his paintings in our opinion are a bargain at current auction prices realized. Est: $1,500 - $3,000
