Original near fine condition clipped point Bowie knife with desirable Gold Rush slogans and maker marked John Nicholson and Sons, Sheffield. This knife shows a 7” clipped point blade that is etched “Self Protector” and “El Dorado” on the reverse side. The etching shows most of the original gilt around “Self Protector”. The blade measures 7” and approximately 11” overall with rosewood grip showing a shield shape inlay. The blade is in very good plus to near fine condition with most of its original Polish and full dimensions showing a very minimal lost to the tip and slight normal aging. The scabbard is painted with the owners name C. C. G. Fairmont or possibly G.G.G. The scabbard is good with the tip and button missing. An exceptional Gold Rush era knife from an important California collection. Est.: $2,000-$4,000.
