(Terry Ramsaye, A Million and One Nights, Volumes I & II, 1926, First Editions, New York, Simon & Shuster, Inc.) Original blue cloth intact. Good condition. This original two-volume set of film historian and author Terry Ramsaye's definitive history of motion picture chronicles the development of movie photography to the era of the silent era. As Ramsaye writes: "Mark you well this Edison peep show Kinetoscope. Every strand in the thread of motion picture destiny runs through it. It is the inescapable link between the gropings of the past and the attainment of the present. Every motion picture machine, every motion picture enterprise, every motion picture personality, screen star or magnate of the screen theatre can be traced to some connection growing out of the little black box that Edison dubbed the Kinetoscope. This is one of the absolute facts of the history of the motion picture." This book is indispensable to the student of the early technical & business development of motion picture. Written in 1926 it does not include the development of sound because it was written before that was developed. The stories are vivid because the memory of the early rough and tumble years had not faded. Essential for the film student and highly recommended for everyone else.
