Original charcoal and pencil sketch on paper entitled "The Squaw Man", signed lower left "Lavallie-05", in its original to-the-period wood frame showing forged iron link decoration attached to the frame. The novel"Squaw Man" was published at about this era and was a very popular book concerning the western frontier. The artwork shows a frontiersman armed with double barrel shotgun in western dress and buckskins withcartridge belt, bandana and western hat and spurs. The title is on a fixed brass plaque of same era. The artwork measures 24" by 18-1/2", the frame measures 31" by 25-1/2"; the condition is good with some smallburning, spotting, normal age and discoloration. The frame is good.
