Tag 1 documents, Number 22,753 dated 1859 inscribed in pen “Christian Sharps breech loading firearm January 25, reissued June 18/61.” On reverse in pen, “recd October 21, 1858.” Second tag inscribed in pen “C. Sharps Phila, PA. Impt in breech loading firearms Patd Jany 25, 1859, reissued June 18, 1861, again Feby 12, 1867.” “67” Stamped in corner. Third tag inscribed in pen, “C. Sharps. Phila, Pa. Impt. In many barrelled [sic] firearms: Patd. Jany 25, 1859. Reissued June 18, 1861. Feby 12, 1867.” Stamped “67” in corner. The model shows a different extractor than that generally known on American manufactured Sharps and is similar to some of the licensed European copies. The model is almost identical to the early model 1’s manufactured by Sharps and this well-known patent model was originally sold by the patent office sale. The bottom of frame area and top of hammer are restorations and are in a different colored wood in order to denote this fact. This exact model is pictured on page 125 as the heading for the chapter on 4-barreled pistols in Frank Sellers’ book Sharps Firearms. Provenance US Patent Office sale, Raymond Petrie, Frank Sellers. An extremely important and rare patent model. Est.: $7,500 - $15,000
