enroute to visit Chief Two Moon Merdias of Waterbury Conn". Chief Two Moon 1888-1923 was a prosperous self proclaimed American Indian who built a thriving business selling herbal medicines in CT and NY. Even though the US Department of Interior refused to recognize him as an American Indian, the Lakota Sioux of Pine Ridge Reservation gave him honorary title of Chief after giving them financial help during the great depression. Meridas was convicted in 1932 of practicing medicine without a license in CT and NY, that same year 26 Sioux from the Pine Ridge Reservation went to speak on his behalf for the charges. Included in the Pine Ridge group, Standing Bear, Kills Crow Man, No Water and American Horse, all participants in the battle of the Big Horn.
