This is a fantastic finding !!! by Emile Paul Chabas, painted at the Lake Annecy in Upper Savoy , France , with the same model he painted ?September Morn? , awarded with the Medal of Honor at the Paris Salon of 1912 , the maiden was a local French peasant girl , the head, however, had been painted from the sketch of a young American girl, Julie Phillips , I attach a photo of ?September Morn? so you can verify is the same lady . The painting was sent to New York and the New York Society for the Suppression of Vice, horrified by what he saw roared: "There's too little morn and too much maid. Take her out!" The gallery manager, however, refused to do so. The ensuing controversy was given wide publicity by the press and the painting was simultaneously denounced and defended across the entire country. Meanwhile, curious crowds filled the street outside the shop straining to see the painting that caused such a stir. Estimated market value in 1957 was $30.000 , finally bought by The Metropolitan.
The painting we are offering, is very much alike, same model, same Lake, same style, simply did not get that publicity, but is probably the best opportunity you may have to get an original Paul Chabas painting with the same feeling as ?September Morn?. Measures 22? x 11?. Free shipping within U.S.
