This is an original work of art pen and ink drawing by Will James showing a western Cowboy attempting to lasso a bicycle done in circa 1924. The artwork is done on paper and shows a quadriptych (four part) cartoonist like design showing first a cowboy on horse back coming upon a rider-less bicycle; second attempting to lasso the speeding off bike; third the horse rearing up as the bike has been roped; and fourth and lastly the cowboy sits defeated on the ground next to his horse watching a puff of smoke as the rider-less bike speeds off into the distance. The back of the drawing shows a ledger of Will James year of 1924 and his expected incomes from various book illustrations and advanced royalties for one of his books coming out to $2,830. This piece was part of the original 2001 Snook Estate Auction and was mentioned as being part of the sale by the Billings Gazette. Will James was a close friend of the Snook Family and was known to be a constant visitor to their Billings, Montana Ranch along with Charles M. Russell. The artwork measures 10 7/8” by 8 3/8”.
