c1879 - This stunning blue 18" x 11.25" time table broadside is the earliest known example of a V&T time table broadside. The title has been closely trimmed on the obverse, thus affecting the rules and regulations visible on the reverse. The color and text on this heavy cardstock example are still sharp, but the broadside bears several tears, rips, bits, and wearing-away of the blue coloring along the page edges. TH. Hunter is listed as Master of Transportation, and H. M. Yerington is listed as General Superintendent. The times and regulations posted herein were intended to "take effect Sunday, December 18th 1879" so it seems likely that this time table was produced somewhere around that year. The Virginia & Truckee Railroad was built to serve the Comstock Lode mining communities of northwestern Nevada. At its height, the railroad`s route ran from Reno south to Carson City, Nevada. In Carson City, the mainline split into two branches. One branch continued south to Minden, while the other branch traveled east to Virginia City. The first section constructed from Virginia City to Carson City was constructed, commencing in 1869, to haul ore, lumber, and supplies for the Comstock Lode. This is the only known copy of this time table--a great addition to any V&T collection! -61709
