Original State of Texas summons for El Paso County dated April 26, 1897 in a case involving famous Western Lawman, Jeff Milton. This subpoena for Joe Dwyer, Jim Dwyer and T.A. Brady was signed by famous El Paso County Sheriff F.B. Simmons and Deputy W.J. TenEyck and returned to the Court on April 28, 1897 indicating service on Brady and Jim Dwyer and that Joe Dwyer was not found for service. Jeff Milton was the Chief of Police of El Paso, Texas during some of its most wild times when the likes of John Wesley Hardin, John Selman, Martin Mroz and George Scarborough were present. During his lifetime, Milton served in numerous law enforcement positions and was one of the first U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agents. The document is two-sided and in very good to excellent condition, approx. 7” x 8” and enclosed in a protective acid free clear sleeve. A great piece of Western history that would be interesting to further research as to the reason Milton was a plaintiff appearing before the District Court. Est.: $500-$750.
