Original State of Texas arrest warrant for any Sheriff of the State of Texas for J.J. Taylor, dated September 6, 1897 signed by famous El Paso County Sheriff F. B. Simmons and Deputy W.J. TenEyck and returned to the Court on September 8, 1897 indicating Taylor was arrested and taken before “the Honorable Court”. The charge on this warrant was “unlawfully playing at a game with cards at a house for retailing spirituous liquors”. J.J. Taylor was the owner of the infamous Gem Saloon in El Paso where John Selman shot and killed gunman and part-time lawyer John Wesley Hardin. The document is two-sided and in very good to excellent condition, approx. 7” x 8”, has the seal imprint of the El Paso County Court and is enclosed in a protective acid free clear sleeve.
