Featured in this lot is this original, signed and numbered Jack Hines print titled, "Evening Encounter at Independence Rock". On May 2, 1923, William J. "Jack" Hines was born in Omaha, Nebraska, a small town in eastern Nebraska not far from the Platte River. He heard tales of westward exploration, Indians, and river men since his earliest memories. These memories have dominated his mind throughout his extensive artistic career and demanded to be captured visually.
With his wife Jessica Zemsky, he made their home in Big Timber, Montana, in 1971. The Northwest Rendezvous Group's founding members were Jack Hines and his wife Jessica Zemsky. On June 20, 2015, Jack Hines passed away.
The print is numbered 30 out of 950, is set in a beautiful wood frame and double matted with beige and brown matting paper. His signature can be seen in the bottom left next to the limited edition numbering reading, "Jack Hines". The print depicts a group of Native American Indians approaching a wagon train at night, with some of the members coming to find out if they mean peace. His signature can bee seen again on the print itself in white reading, "Jack Hines NWR ©1979 Big Timber, Montana". The frame shows some wear from use over the years but no obvious signs of damage are noted to the piece. The visible art measures 21 7/8" L x 31 7/8" W, while the entire piece measures 32" L x 42" W x 1 7/8" D.
