An Eighteenth Century East Indiaman Voyage to China. The First Officer's log book of a Voyage of the ship "Bellmont", (Captain Gamage) to Johanna, Bombay, Whampoa, St, Helena, and the return to England. Starting app. 45 days into the Voyage and is then complete daily from March 8th, 1788 through May 12th, 1789 (off Dover.) Elephant Folio, (18"x11.75") with 144 pages bound in newer Brown cloth with a dark Maroon Morocco Label titled in gilt. Written in neat legible hand with Sepia ink, and including 36 attractive land profiles on approaching most of the ports visited. An extensive and detailed account. All shipboard duties and activities are described daily, as well as disciplines. Ships stores, Sickness of members, the sighting of two "Botany Bay Ships", etc... Including harbor journals and a full inventory of the Teas shipped to China. An Extraordinary Manuscript. Binding is Fine, contents are Very Good with some occasional smudges and edge staining, pages are mildly tanned but quite legible.
