Al Capp personally-owned script from ''Li'l Abner'', the Broadway musical based on his famous comic strip. The musical comedy opened on 15 November 1956 and was an instant hit, with a run of 693 performances and subsequent nationwide tour and Paramount Pictures film. Tony Award-winning comedic spoof was based on the wildly popular strip featuring Li'l Abner, a hillbilly from Dogpatch, Kentucky. Written by Norman Panama and Melvin Frank, with music by Gene dePaul and lyrics by Johnny Mercer, script includes extensive notes in pencil handwritten on title page and verso, with ''Al Capp'' written at top corner of title page, and additional notes scattered throughout, likely in his hand. Typed script runs 110pp. in two acts and is bound in 9'' x 11.25'' soft maroon boards with two silver fasteners and ''Li'l Abner'' printed to center of cover. Light toning throughout and a chip to lower right corner of cover, else very good. Also with script, though detached, includes a typed list of song titles, a 12pp. summary of the musical and lyrics for 17 of the songs.
