Included in this lot we have a original signed Louis Mathias Leo framed watercolor painting titled "The Landing Of Columbus". Louis Mathias Leo was an Austrian artist and painter. He was born in 1871 in Austria, moved to Los Angeles in 1906 and passed away in 1958. The piece depicts the first meeting of Columbus and the Natives in the New World. The painting shows Columbus and six of his crew holding flags and weapons, as Columbus points at the gathered crowd. The Native Islanders are shown gathered near the shore and are presenting gifts to the crew as the leader points off to the sea. This original watercolor shows exceptional detail and wonderful coloration. The piece is signed in the bottom left hand corner reading "Louis Leo". The painting is set into a golden frame with floral patterns across the corners and a off white border around the painting. The painting shows its original art gallery tag and is priced at $2,250. Provenance: From the renowned Sundog Fine Art Bozeman, Montana collection and collected by Bruce VanLandingham. Bruce VanLandingham was a pillar in the American Indian collecting community and a respected expert. Along with being an avid collector Bruce also was the sole owner of Sundog Fine Art Gallery in Bozeman which was both part museum and gallery. The piece shows very good condition overall with some light wear across the frame. The frame measures 29 1/2" wide by 38 1/2" tall with the art measuring 21 1/2" wide by 30 1/4" tall.
