Original Henry Model 1860 44 RF SN 4196
with standard 24" octagon barrel. Top of barrel marked Patent Oct 16 1860 manufact'd by The New Haven Arms Co. New Haven CT. Barrel displays a pleasing blue brown original patina, sharp markings and edges, barrel fitted with original adjustable rear leaf sight, receiver shows a nice untouched honey brass color with light dings and scratches as would be expected. Right side shows period lightly scratched letter H, wood stock having been heavily sanded resulting in poor fit to metal, original serial number putt plate intact. An interesting Henry that was purchased from the Lyons family by a now deceased collector. Enclosed documents list Patrick Lyons as a member of the 66th Illinois Volunteers Infantry and was designed as a regiment of western sharp shooters. A large portion of these men purchased and used Henry Rifles as their weapon of choice. Listed in Madis Book of Winchesters is rifle serial number 4178 (only 18 serial numbers away from this Henry) which is inscribed "G. Burkhardt. Co. H. 7th Ill. Vol. In." Includes original handwritten letter from Patrick Lyons to the then Governor of Springfield IL. in regards to a claim for disputed pay and a copy of his muster role. Rifle remains mechanically sound with nice tight action and very good bore. NO FFL required.
