This is an original G.C. (Gerry) Wentworth clay sculpture titled "Counter Point". Gerry Wentworth was a Great Falls, Montana artist who grew up in the era just after Charles Russell's life. He was largely self taught and spent the majority of his life working in painting, sculpture and wood carving. Wentworth's works have been widely exhibited in such places as the C.M. Russell Show, the Phippen Art Show and the Frank Tenney Johnson Show. In 1981, he won Best of Show at the Northwest Americana Art Show. The sculpture shows a cowboy and his horse falling to the ground while an Indian warrior on horseback draws his bow and arrow. The piece shows excellent detail and artistic talent. The sculpture sits on a solid wood base. It has been signed by the artist and is dated "1975". It is in good overall condition with some minor cracking due to shrinking. The sculpture comes with a Certificate of Authenticity and gives rights to the new owner to have it cast as they choose. The sculpture measures 14" x 22" and is 13" tall.
