[Lima Mint]. DOCUMENTS OF THE MINT IN LIMA, PERU. Lima, 1780-1840. Nine documents relating to various aspects of the administration of the Casa de Moneda de Lima. All single-leaf documents, some printed on both sides. First two entirely in manuscript with stamped seals; rest printed forms completed in manuscript. Three with small holes affecting manuscript; others with marginal holes not affecting printing or writing; most very good to fine. An interesting group of material relating to the Lima Mint at a time when the products thereof continued to circulate in what is now the United States as well as in the Latin-American world. The documents include: a March 18, 1780 document from Don Estanislao de Landázuri, Mint Superintendent, purchasing silver; a similar document dated two days later; two documents dated Jan. 22 and Feb. 23, 1787, from the Customs House of Cuenca (Port of Lambayeque) paying duties; two 1792 certificates signed by assayer Joseph Rodriguez de Caraza y Muñoz; an 1833 certificate signed by assayer Manuel Rodriguez de Caraza and Manuel Velarde; and bonds dated 1836 and 1840 authorizing the purchase of silver bars. Most interesting; nice accompanying pieces to a collection of coins from this mint.
