Featured in this lot we have a original etching and dry point by Chauncey Ryder. Chauncey Ryder (1868-1949) was an American postimpressionist painter known for his landscapes. Ryder worked in both oil and watercolor painting, as well as etching and drypoint as mediums and was known for his grey-green palette termed 'Ryder green'. Ryder moved to Paris, France and lived there for six year when he moved to New York City. This piece depicts a rocky mountain side with a few windswept trees. The trees are almost completely stripped of leaves and are possible dead. The background shows a large mountain rising up towards the top of the piece. The art is signed "Chauncey F. Ryder" in the bottom right hand corner. The art is set into a gilt gold frame with a grey border around the piece. The back of the frame shows a art gallery tag from Sundog art gallery. Provenance: From the renowned Sundog Fine Art Bozeman, Montana collection and collected by Bruce VanLandingham. Bruce VanLandingham was a pillar in the American Indian collecting community and a respected expert. Along with being an avid collector Bruce also was the sole owner of Sundog Fine Art Gallery in Bozeman which was both part museum and gallery. The piece shows good condition overall with some light wear on the frame. The frame measures 21 1/2" wide by 19 1/4" tall with the art measuring 12 1/4" wide by 9 1/2" tall.
