Original British case for Colt model 1855 Root with standard 3-1/2” barrel. Green baize or felt lined with instruction label in lid. Oak exterior. The case remains in fair to good original condition with approx. 90% original label remaining in lid, just some areas of darkening, small tatters, but generally intact and absolutely an original label. The green interior is in good condition needing some cleaning, but solid partitions and just dirty. The exterior of the case is good showing darkened patina, some small losses. The brass keyplate and owner’s plaque are missing, and there is a split across the bottom of the case. The top of the case shows brass original screws. An original Root type screwdriver with 60% blue is included, showing a break at the top edge and Eley cap tin. One of the rarest cases to obtain, and the interior condition good enough for a 70-90% British proofed Root. This case would definitely improve with careful small restorations. Formerly of the Charles DuPont collection. Est: $1,750 - $3,500
