What many collectors regard as the last of the Great Wurlitzer’s.We are proud to offer this superb Jukebox in our Great Americana Auction.

The Wurlitzer 1100 jukebox is a bold and arresting piece of furniture even before you plug it in, but when switched on it looks sensational. The whole facade becomes a blaze of color from the arch to the base. The side pilasters contain slowly rotating colored cylinders revolving around neon tubes which bathe the machine and immediate area in constantly changing hues to mesmerizing effect. But, as if its very appearance in repose wasn't enough, you can then press a button and select any one of 24 different records of your choice and have it belting out music. The selector panel is in the form of a novelty animated feature - an illuminated, motorized, three position rotating unit. The record changing mechanism is fully visible and fascinating to watch in action. Though the machine is from the 78rpm record era, Wurlitzer used a then revolutionary lightweight pickup called the 'Cobra' (complete with 'snake eyes') designed by the Zenith Radio Corp. of Chicago and this, in conjunction with the special amplifier, gives surprisingly rich reproduction that belies its vintage. This machine has a good strident sound - even quite worn records sound acceptable.

With the B-17 Bomber styled Window it was the first opportunity Wurlitzer had to use this much plastic in the window since World War 2.

Once you have this living breathing piece of Deco Americana in your living room, the fun doesn't stop there. It opens up a whole new avenue of collecting the 'vinyl', namely the 78rpm records to put in it. There are still millions of 78's out there, from late 50's rock and beyond obtainable from dealers and record fairs - or just put an ad in your local paper. Rhino Records in the USA actually makes new reissues of 78's specifically for the antique jukebox market.

This Wurlitzer 1100 is a jewel and ready to be delivered to its new residence. Be prepared to fall madly in love.
