Original Boots & Spurs Montana Silver Gelatin
The lot features an original gelatin silver photograph mounted on a painted white metal backing by Wouter Deruytter, an accomplished artist. Deruytter was born in 1967 in Belgium. Wouter Deruytter is well known for his images of masks and costumes and recently for his collection of American western culture. This example is black and white, showing a cowboy earnestly waiting for the bull riding bucking shoots on an old Montana Rodeo bleacher, bearing his classic American blue jeans, well-worn leather cowboy boots, and five-point star rowel steel spurs. This was taken at an actual Montana Rodeo in the early 2000’s while visiting the 5 Bar 6 Ranch. The condition of this piece of art is good, showing slight signs of handling and moving. Provenance: From the prestigious Edward Bazinet art collection, founder of Department 56 and avid art collector. The piece was displayed at his 5 Bar 6 Ranch, the ranch where ‘The River Runs Through It’ was filmed in the early 1990’s, directed by Robert Redford and starring Brad Pitt. As the story goes, the owner of the ranch turned down a generous offer from Robert Redford to instead sell the ranch to Mr. Bazinet, who has since passed. The measurements of this art are 34 1/4" x 34 1/4".
