Original Batik by Lydia Dillon-Sutton. measures approx. 14"x14" visual only. Tucson, Arizona artist Dillon-Sutton was poster award winner of the St. George Art Festival in 1988 and featured on the cover of Desert Southwest. Using the basic tools of cloth, beeswax and dye, Lydia has mastered this 1000-year-old art and applied it to her favorite themes: the Indians, animals and landscapes of the Southwest. Critics indicate that line in motion with a rich use and unique understanding of color set her batiks apart. While her works are done in the traditional vat-dyed method, involving up to 10 different dye baths, she continuously explores the new possibilities in color, form and technique. She shows the tempo of everyday life in the Indian and Mexican cultures, capturing the motion and moods of it's people.
