Edmond Charles Joseph Yon, 'Edmond Yon' (Paris, 1836 - 1897) Original etching & drypoint engraving of a French country landscape scene, picnic. Displayed in folio with handwritten information. Philip Gilbert Hamerton, London publisher. 6 1/2" X X 9 3/4" etching size. 11 1/4" X 17 1/2" folio size. A nineteenth century French etcher & painter of landscapes & river views, Edmond Charles Joseph Yon studied in Paris under Jean Achille Pouget & Justin Lequien. His art was first exhibited at the Paris Salon in 1865 & he continued to regularly show both etchings & paintings there until near the century's end. Edmond Yon's art was awarded medals from the Salon in both 1875 & 1879 &, in 1889, he received a Gold Medal from the Exposition Universale. Edmond Yon was elected a Chevalier of France's Legion of Honour in 1886. In both his paintings & original etchings, Edmond Yon was a master of atmospheric effects. Most often his preferred subjects were river & coastal views in both France & Holland.  Today the art of Edmond Yon is included in public museums in Amiens, Anvers, Calais, Lille, Louviers, Paris & elsewhere.
