Original 1890-1910s Redrock Stage Co. Sign On Wood
For your consideration is this original 1890-1910 Redrock, Salmon & Gibbonsville Stage Company advertising sign set on wood. The sign is advertising a stagecoach route between Red Rock, Montana and Salmon, Idaho. The route spanned a total of 125 miles and ran year-round. It involved three stagecoach companies, Redrock, Salmon & Gibbonsville, which included 90 horses, 14 Concord coaches, and 12 wagons. When taking the route, it wasn't uncommon to be held up by bandits or rogues, or see an overturned coach from the treacherous roads. The paper ad is original and is set on a piece of wood and clear coated for preservation. The sign shows an image of a man driving a coach with a team of four horses at the top. Below that it reads, "4 and 6-Horse Concord coaches To The Railroad / By The Way Of Salmon City Via. Redrock, Salmon & Gibbonsville Stage Co.,And The Challis & Salmon Line" at the top in blue lettering. The rest have been cut off from tears in the paper. The paper sign shows fair condition from its antique age and years of advertising. It shows discoloration and tears towards the bottom but is still in one piece. The top is readable and the graphic is not torn. The wood board shows some wear to the edges but shows a nice stained look and clear coat finish. The paper sign itself measures 17 1/16" L x 6" W. The entire piece measures 24 3/8" L x 9 1/4" W x 3/4" D.
