This an authentic 1963 U. S. Senate Chamber card signed by Bourke B. Hickenlooper. July 16 1963 badge signed by Senator Hickenlooper to permit his guest, Miss Paula Schroeder, to enter the Senate chambers. Bourke B. Hickenlooper (1896-1971) was Lieutenant Governor and then Governor (1943-1945) of Iowa before gaining election to the U. S. Senate, where he served from 1945 to 1969. A very conservative Republican who headed the Republican Policy Committee (1962-1969), Hickenlooper often clashed with Senate Minority Leader Everett Dirksen, whom Hickenlooper considered too willing to compromise with Democrats. The Hickenlooper Amendment (1962) prohibited the U. S. from giving foreign aid to any country which expropriated American property without full, fair and effective compensation. Hickenlooper served in the U. S. Army in France during World War I. From the collection of Ralph Errington Ward (1926-2009) a fighter pilot and squadron commander in the China-Burma-India Theater of World War II. Ward went on to become President and CEO of Cheseborough-Ponds, Inc., transforming the cosmetics firm into a major home product conglomerate. SIZE: Approx. 4" x 2 3/4".
