 Oriental Field Sports  Engravings after Williamson,
ca 1805-1819. Six hand colored engravings from drawings by Samuel Howitt in Capt. Thomas Williamson's "Oriental Field Sports, Wild Sports of the East", published by Edward Orme in 1807, and used by Spode for its "Indian Sporting Series". Includes Plates IX, X, XXXI, XXXIII, framed, with text pages, and Plate XIII and XXXIII, unframed, no text pages; 20" high x 15.5" wide (sight).

Condition: Set includes Plate IX "Decoy Elephants Catching A Male;" Plate X, "Decoy Elephants Leaving the Male Fastened to a Tree;" Plate XXXI, "Hunting Jackals;" Plate XXXIII; "Common Wolf Trap," dated 1805 and 1806. Two later prints published by T. McLean, Jan. 1819, London, include XXXIII, "Common Wolf Trap," and XIII, "Shooting A Tiger from a Platform." The original edition contained 40 plates with letter press to each and was dedicated to His Majesty King George the Third. See Coysh & Henrywood, Vol. I, p. 187-188.
