This saddle has been thoroughly looked over by the master saddle maker and historian, Dale E. Moore. Dale has identified this as being an 1870 Oregon Territory saddle with a tree very similar to “The Portland.” Thissaddle is believed to be hand created by the saddle great George Lawrence, Portland Oregon with 95% assurance. The saddle features a cantle with no binding and a West coast Portland era carved tooling design showingwonderful condition. The binding of the skits and refinement are indicative of a very expensive, high end saddle. In 1857 George Lawrence founded Portland Oregon saddle company. George Lawrence became the largestproducer of elite saddles in the Northwest. Many were shipped from the West Coast to the gold strike area in Alaska and the Yukon Territory.
