Rare and unique certificate, to J.J. Applegate Taulee, for 5 shares. Serial No. 160, signed by J. McCoy, president and J.J. (illegible) secretary. The masthead is wonderfully ornate, complete with filigreed background. There is an embossed seal in the center. The lithograph was produced by the famous San Francisco firm of Britton & Rey. A letter accompanies this note, stating its provenance. The Ophir mine, along with the adjacent Mexican, were shipping 75 tons of rich ore daily to the mills in 1879, from 1900` t0 2200` depths. Ophir was the "discovery" mine on the Comstock, located on the north end of VC. Certificate measures 9"x4.2", and is in excellent condition.
