"Onyx In Orbit" is this ring's given name. It must be a work of art!

It really appears to always be moving like some superfast electrons around an atom! This 18 karat yellow and white gold ring features an ellipse carved from polished, black onyx and approximately .33 carats of round, brilliant-cut, H color, VS-SI clarity diamonds on the white gold ellipse. The top of this ring is approximately 1 1/8" in diameter between the knuckles of the finger and it has a uniquely carved gallery for support that is attached to the doubled ring shank that tapers from pinched at the top to approximately 5.25mm at the bottom. This ring is US size 9. See below for sizing detail and other information. There is a hallmark that has been obscured. The hallmark is either "R" or ends with "R". See Provenance Information Below. 1) All weights, sizes, measurements, as well as the color or clarity of any gemstones or diamonds mentioned in the titles, descriptions, introductions, notes or anywhere in the auction catalog shall be considered "approximate" regardless of the inclusion of the word "approximate" or any similar adjective.

2) The winning bidder may consider getting an appraisal report prepared by an independent* GIA graduate gemologist for a small additional fee. Please contact Bidfair Fine Jewelry for details.

3) It is an estate item in excellent to like new condition. There may be some minor, fine scratches on the gold. This ring has been sized previously, which is evident near the 18K mark.

4) Props used to aid in photography are NOT included in any lot, unless stated in the title and/or description.

Provenance: The trustee of this estate states that he believe this ring once did spin, somewhat like a pinwheel. He believe this original owner of the ring had a jeweler alter the ring so it would no longer spin. Very close inspection of the gallery shows evidence of the alteration. The work is not easily seen, and seems to be quality workmanship.
