We have had many unusual stocks, but this is an amusement park stock certificate. Toyland was the "mythical" highlight of the Joy Zone of the Panama-Pacific Exposition in 1915 in San Francisco. When the original designer proved he couldn't find the finances to create his own vision, it turned over to new owners to try and make this incredible masterpiece work. E. W. Waterhouse became the president and tried to raise money selling stock. He seemed to have sold about $5,000 - only to his friends. Toyland did open up six weeks into the Exposition, but a week after opening Waterhouse and his partners wanted to shut it down. As one official put it Toyland had fallen "flatter than Babylon." [Kid from Coney Island] Lot of two. 1) Stock certificate #2 and #60. Both sold to E. L. Johnstone and signed by E. W. Waterhouse and W. D. Dalton. Date: 1914 San Francisco CA hwac 2427
