One of the Great Printing Feats of Modern Tim
One of the Great Printing Feats of Modern Times. Group of four plates showing rare stamps in the British Royal Collection, 10 1/2 x 1 5 1/2 . Issues of British-occupied WWI Persian and German colonies in color, a gem block of 2-penny blues, and portrait of Queen Victoria. Printed c. 1952 in Edinburgh, and taking eight years to complete, this was probably the most intricate printing project of any kind undertaken before or since. To match the colors of the originals, rather than settle for standard four-color process, up to 53 colors were used, to achieve the most perfect rendering of this stamp collection of King George VI. (Understandably, not all 53 colors appear in every plate.) Untrimmed: between 4 and 14 color bars used by pressmen at top. Excellent and fascinating.
