One of the First Two Custom Order Cased Signed Engraved Gold Inlaid Connecticut Shotgun Special Grad
This custom order shotgun is one of two Special Grade 410 shotguns that were built together for display at the January, 1996 Shot Show, The Safari Club Convention and the Las Vegas Antique Arms Show. The two shotguns were the first 410 gauge ever built by A.H. Fox. The other A. H. Fox .410 was sold by RIAC at a previous auction. (copy of a letter from Connecticut Shotgun Manufacturing verifying aforementioned information accompanies the gun). The shotgun features blue barrels and trigger guard, and casehardened remaining parts. The breech ends of the barrel and the sides of the flats are engraved with floral leaf patterns with a matte background. The rib extension has the same pattern with a gold inlaid band. There two ivory bead sights on the matte concave solid rib. The top of the right barrel is marked "MADE TO ORDER. A.H.FOX" and the top of the left is marked "KRUPP FLUID STEEL". The barrels are chambered 3 inch, choked with ejectors. The scalloped box lock action, break lever, forearm latch assembly and hardware, and trigger guard are engraved with deep floral scroll patterns. Each side of the action is engraved "ANSLEY H. FOX" in a banner. The fences are recessed and have the same relief engraved pattern. The sides of the action have a gold inlaid hunting dogs with gold highlights and the bottom has a gold inlaid quail in flight with gold inlaid grass and leafs. The left side of the trigger guard plate is signed "A. TUSCANO ENGR.". The serial number is gold inlaid on the lower tang. The water table is marked in gold "SPECIAL" directly below the serial number and next to that is a gold insert oval marked "FE". The left side barrel flat is marked "SPECIAL" and the right side is marked with the serial number and ".410 - 3". Double triggers and tang mounted safety with gold "SAFE" and mounted with Exhibition Grade Turkish Circassian walnut Fleur-de-Lis checkered beaver tail forearm and straight grip stock with Fleur-de-Lis checkered flats and wrist extending to within 4 1/2" from the toe, and checkered bare butt. The length of pull is 14 1/2", drop at the comb is 1 3/8" and the drop at the heel is 2 1/4". Complete in a leather bound hard takedown case with leather corner protectors, maroon wool ling with A.H. Fox label affixed to the inside of the lid, two-piece walnut cleaning rod and two nickel snap caps.
