Once Upon A Time In America Noodles (Robert DiNiro) Screen Used Opium Pipe Prop
Once Upon A Time In America Noodles (Robert De Niro) Screen Used Opium Pipe Prop - Master legendary director Sergio Leone gave the world one last epic, told in Leone's trademark awe-inspiring operatic narrative with "Once Upon A Time In America" (1984). In his original director's cut version (which now has become the standard version for all to enjoy), the story is centered on David "Noodles" Aaronson (Robert De Niro), a once powerful Prohibition gangster of the 1930s who returns to his roots in the Lower East Side thirty years later to confront his "ghosts" and regrets, plus relive in his mind his glory days. His reappearance unleashes the epic story in an unhinged array of time periods, from his youth in the 1920's, to his gangster rule in the 1930's, to his reappearance in 1968. At the end of this 230 minute masterpiece, we see Noodles in a Chinese opium den in New York. With a ritual reminiscent of a Japanese Tea Ceremony, an opium man carefully readies a pipe for Noodles, who takes off his coat and shoes and lays down on a pillow-laded sofa. He takes a few long puffs, then lays back, and for the first time, seems at peace with his tumultuous life as, drug induced, he smiles at memories, both real and imagined. This is the last shot in this monumental motion picture and we watch him slide into a haze as the credits roll. In fact, many believe that the entire 1968 sequence is actually just a dream that Noodles is having during this opium high. This is the actual hero screen used opium pipe that De Niro smokes in this haunting and brilliant sequence. it comes from the private collection of famous Italian prop master Pasquale Avvisato. It was a gift to him from his friend and colleague Gianni Fanni who was the prop master of "Once Upon A Time In America". From Leone's last and many believe greatest film, from the final sequence (the last to be shot as well) of the master-work, a true one-of-a-kind treasured motion picture memorabilia prop. Screen used opium pipe is approx 26" long.
