On the Waterfront (Columbia, 1954). Italian (39" X 55"). Anselmo Ballester created this masterpiece of movie advertising to promote one of the greatest films of the 1950s. Marlon Brando portrayed Terry Malloy, a dockyard worker who stands up to the mob, run with vicious intensity by Lee J. Cobb. Eva Marie Saint is the sister of a martyred worker that Malloy falls in love with and Karl Malden portrays the priest who pushes Malloy to give voice to his conscience. In one of the most riveting scenes in movie history, Rod Steiger confronts his brother Terry (Brando) in the back of a mob limo prompting Brando to utter the classic line, "I could'a been a contender, I could'a been somebody, instead of a bum, which is what I am." This poster has some airbrushing in the bottom border and some color touch to the fold lines. There was a bit more color touch to all three centerpoints. Fine+ on Linen.
