This is an early and important authentic Mayan Olmec carved jade and stone effigy medallion face from circa 500 A.D. The piece was recovered in an early 1900 South American Expedition with all the beads shown and has been professionally restrung for stability and museum display purposes. This is truly an exceptional Pre-Columbian artifact showing all the correct drill and carved marks indicative of its circa 500 A.D. age. Provenance: From the personal collection of renowned collector and foremost knowledge on war clubs and tomahawks, Mark Francis. The Francis collection piece has been authenticated. Truly a museum quality important piece of Olmec history. The piece was made by a highly skilled artisan showing a detailed carved area and wonderful designed face. The Olmec people are one of the early great civilizations in Mesoamerica. The Olmec’s were before the Mayans and Aztecs and were true artisans and masters of both colossal stone carvings and Jade Masks. Olmec artworks are considered among ancient America's most striking.
