Eminent American writer (1809–1894) best known for his collection The Autocrat of the Breakfast Table and the much-anthologized poem ‘The Chambered Nautilus.’ Original vintage 2.5 x 4 carte-de-viste photo by Case and Getchell of Boston (and so noted at the bottom and printed on the reverse), signed in the lower border in black ink. Some scattered light spotting and toning to image and border, slight silvering to bottom of image, and mounting remnants to reverse, otherwise fine condition. Provenance: The Barry Hoffman Collection.
