<B>Oliver Wendell Holmes Autograph Letter Signed,</B></I> “<I>O.W. Holmes,</B></I>”, one page, 5” x 6.5”, Bromley Farms, Massachusetts, August 27, 1929, to a Seymour Halpern. Responding to a young man's plea for career guidance, the venerable Supreme Court Justice wrote in part, “<I>…Even if I knew you I should not undertake to decide for you how to direct your life…if a man has courage, the power to want something hard and to want it all the time, and has no marked defects of mind or manners, he is pretty sure to make a place for himself…</B></I>”. Fine condition. The recipient of Holmes's sage advice was but sixteen and would grow up to serve New York in the United States House of Representatives from 1959-1973.<BR>Included with the letter are a 1909 White House autograph card with Secretary of State Robert Bacon's signature and a ticket to the 1900 Republican National Convention.
