American military officer (1785–1819) who served in the War of 1812 and earned the title ‘Hero of Lake Erie’ for leading American forces in a decisive naval victory at the Battle of Lake Erie. ALS signed “O. H. Perry,” one page, 4.25 x 6.25, April 11. Final page of a letter by Perry, in full: "It was my intention to have called again to see you but constant occupation has [deprived] me of that…If you have any commands for Newport, I shall be happy to execute them." Impressively displayed with a one-cent 1813 coin, oak timber fragment from Perry's flagship 'Brig Niagara,' and a Baltimore newspaper clipping from December 18, 1813, publishing one of Perry's letters: mounted, matted, and framed to an overall size of 17 x 21. In very good to fine condition, with three small tape stains to the letter.
