Third Chief Justice of the United States and delegate to the Constitutional Congress (1777–84) who later submitted the amendments which became the Bill of Rights. As a member of the Committee of the Pay Table, Ellsworth was one of the five men who supervised Connecticut’s war expenditures. Manuscript DS, signed “O. Ellsworth,” one page, 8.5 x 6, June 17, 1776. A draft ordering a payment to James Whiton “for expense of his sickness while a soldier in the Colony.” In fine condition, with two horizontal folds, and some scattered light creases.
