Oliver Cromwell (1599-1658) was an English soldier and statesman who helped make England a republic. He ruled as Lord Protector from 1653 to 1658.
When he died in 1658, Cromwell was buried at Westminster Abbey. However when the Royalists returned to power in 1660, his body was dug up and beheaded in a posthumous execution.
A controversial figure in British history, Cromwell is often considered as both a dictator and a hero.
This item is the autograph of Oliver Cromwell measuring 4" x 2" which has been neatly clipped from an official document.
There is one very light stain at the base of the piece which does not affect the signature. Otherwise this marvellous piece is in very good condition.
Below the signature are four additional words relating to marriage, written in an unidentified hand.
This fantastic autograph comes with two reproduction engravings depicting Oliver Cromwell.
