Old Western tooled leather high back saddle by Knox & Tanner Co., Rawlings, Wyoming, in overall good condition showing wear from riding; iron stirrups and standard leather wrapped horn; the front of the seat backdisplays the initials “RDM” prominently within the floral tooling. Although no provenance accompanies this saddle, the collector community is aware of an engraved Colt SAA revolver with the period initials“RDM” on the butt of the gun that belonged to cowboy and lawman, Bob Meldrum who frequented the Rawlings area; accompanying this lot is information on Meldrum and pictures of the initials inscribed on thebutt of his Colt revolver; the style being very similar to that of the tooling initials on the saddle which in our opinion are definitely period and show consistent wear with the rest of the saddle; also with thislot is a hand-made wooden saddle stand; an interesting piece that should be further researched although the saddle alone is desirable to Western collectors given the fame of the Knox & Tanner brand.
