This 57 x 36 rug is an older example of a Navajo made rug. The colors used include traditional natural, tan, dark brown, light brown, grey, and red. The nontraditional colors in use include orange, green, and purple. The weft selvage cords are red and damaged along both edges--the damage includes pulls and tears. In the natural wool near the rug center, there is a small section of stitches that appear to have come loose or that were skipped over a warp thread. The four corners feature an applied green fringe. This rug is a fine example of lazy lines, also known as sectional lines, which indicate where the weaver worked for a time, stopped, and worked on a different section. The place where these two sections meet is evidenced by a diagonal joiner in the rug. This rug features many such section lines, which is considered by many to be a mark of authenticity as the Navajo were known to employ this weaving technique. Machine made rugs and handwoven rugs by other cultures typically do not include this lines. From the Tahoe Wovoka Estate Collection. Wovoka Collection HKA#63075
