18 Skull beads of (likely) deceased Lama hip-bone, plus Starter and Divider beads of Chinese Coral Trade Glass (unusually Large at about 3/4" diameter) make this an important Mala for doing prayers. Many ancient sculptures show the Yogi/Aesthetic/Lama holding short strings of larger beads, just such as this. While traveling the user often wore these shorter Mala on the upper arm over the underclothes (correct size for that) but under the outer jacket or coat. Important and scarce, the Skull beads average over 3/4" to the chin. The tail of the Mala is anchored by another skull bead, the cord leading to an old Cowrie Shell that has its back sliced off for suspension (3000-year old tradition that predates Buddhism).
