Old Indian-made thong laced and painted par flesh trunk approximately 23” long, 20” wide and 11” tall with canvas cover to trunk’s opening at top; in overall good to very good condition with cattle hide end pieces. Accompanied by three ring binder including an original newspaper article from the Billings, Montana Gazette, dated November 28, 1965, picturing the trunk and noting that the trunk “rests on a davenport in the Earl Grainger (1919-1995) living room. Once, the Graingers say, the trunk was used by Col. W.F. (Buffalo Bill) Cody when he took his Wild West show on tour”. The article further notes that Earl Grainger and his wife at the time of the article’s writing, were owners of the New Yellowstone Hotel and Antique Shop in Laurel, MT. Copies of other articles further describe the Graingers’ extensive collection of artifacts in a home “that could double for a Museum”. The article also mentions Earl served in the Army Air Corps during WW II. Est.: $800-$1,600.
