c1871 Rare. This is a collection of editions from an old Carson City newspaper that operated for only two years. Its former name was The Carson City Daily Appeal before state printer Charles L. Perkins and H. C. Street took the paper over and renamed it. The first issue of The Daily State Register newspaper was published on 29 December 1870. After 5 March 1871, it was supposed to be a bi-weekly paper, but that only lasted for two issues before the paper returned to its daily production due to demand from the reading audience. On 13 February 1872, John Booth began his tenure as editor after Street retired. Henry R. Mighels, who started reissuing the Daily Appeal in September, later bought out Booth because Carson City was not able to sustain two daily newspapers. Mighels ended his competition when the Daily Register ended its run on 15 December 1872 [Ref: Lingenfelter and Gash, The Newspapers of Nevada: A History and Bibliography, 1854-1979, 1984, p.37]. The bound book cover measures 17.5" x 12" x 1.5". The binding covers have been repaired, and the front cover is missing. - HKA#65922
