[Bécs] Viennae Austriae, 1560. Raphael Hoffhalter. [6] p. + 137 levél + [7] p. Decrees issued by the prelate of the synod of Nagyszombat (Tyrnaviae) led by Nicolaus Olah archbishop of Esztergom in April 1560. The aim of the synod was to reorganise the Church and work out the counter-Reformation. The highly educated archbishop wrote the basic document of the renewal of the Hungarian Church in the spirit of Tridentium. Nicolaus Olah (1493-1568) was a humanist priest. In 1526 he was secretary to Louis II and Maria, and after the battle of Mohacs he fled to Germany. In 1542 he moved back, became bishop of Zagreb and Eger, from 1553 archbishop of Esztergom. The woodcut depicting the author is missing from our copy. Contemporary, pressed, woodenplate leather binding. The lower edge of a few pages are stained, the copper seals ending the volume are missing, minor damage on top of the spine. Very rare book.
